Farmers are on the front line of dealing with the consequences of climate change, from the medium term need to change crops, to intensified and more frequent floods and cyclones, and droughts.

Farmers can also feel they are suffering the side effects of our transition to renewable energy, in the form of electricity transmission line construction, wind turbines and solar farms on agricultural land.

But there is a bright side…

Farmers can also be major players in, and beneficiaries of, the renewable energy evolution and economy.

Renewable electricity can be sustainably generated from crop residues, using Capricorn Power’s heat to electricity modular engine. Other energy sources include sawmill offcuts and sawdust, agri-forestry thinnings,  and food processing byproducts such as nut shells.

As well as generating income by generating electricity, there is the potential to add more value to agricultural products by enabling processing and refining which requires an affordable supply of electricity, e.g. cotton ginning, wool scouring, food drying and milling, etc.
